This paper got Computer Linguistics - Applications Best Demonstration Award 2nd place.

  • On 21st and 22nd of February 2008, I participated in IBM University Relations Leadership Exchange Forum in Lisbon, Portugal. I introduced EU-6th framework project Nepomuk to IBM University Relations staff and leaders of IBM Centers for Advanced Studies.
      
  • On 29-31 of January, I visited Paris and had meetings with Alexander Polonsky and Mikhail Kotelnikov (Cognium Systems), with Ludovic Dubost , Stéphane Laurière and Yachneet Pushkarna (XWIKI). I also met Michel Lara (IBM Paris Innovation Center program manager). I presented Galaxy to several business partners at the Solutions Linux fair.
      
  • At the end of January 2008 I had a meeting with IBM alphaWorks business development team related to “IBM LanguageWare Miner for Multidimensional Socio-Semantic Networks”. The Irish Times published the article about IBM alphaWorks with particular emphasis on LanguageWare presence on alphaWorks ( The Irish Times February 1, 2008 Friday http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/finance/2008/0201/index.html)

    IBM describes alphaWorks as a key channel "for reaching an early adopter audience that is instrumental in shaping the future technology landscape". It allows anyone to get hold of alpha (ie early) code, experiment with it, and perhaps create their own innovations.
     
  • On 25th of January 2008 I gave a talk at Dublin Computational Linguistics Research Seminar (DCLRS) entitled “IBM LanguageWare Miner for Multidimensional Socio-Semantic Networks”

    Research seminar presentation of Galaxy and how it can be applied to a wide range of applications given as part of the Dublin Computational Linguistics Research Seminars (DCLRS) series. The audience for this talk consisted of academics and students with various specialties and led to some discussions regarding using Galaxy in the new multi-million euro research partnership funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) that will develop the next generation of high tech automatic language translation (NGL CSET).
      
  • On 5th of December 2007 I acted as External Examiner for Brendan Cleary candidate for the award of PhD (University of Limerick, Ireland).  
         
  • In December 2007- January 2008 I mentored two Nepomuk deliverables. "Submission of the NEPOMUK APIs to a
    standardisation organization and other contributions to standardisation", Deliverable D7.5 is one of them.
      
  • On 26th of November 2007 I took part in Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Science Summit 2007 http://sfisciencesummit2007.com/asp/default.asp?p=2 (hosted by Mr. Micheál Martin, T.D., Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment).

  • “IBM LanguageWare Miner for Multidimensional Socio-Semantic Networks” - the product, developed in my group in the framework of the project codenamed Galaxy - was released on IBM's website for emergent technologies, alphaWorks.
      
  • November 2007
    Presented Galaxy to members of LERO (the Irish Software Engineering Research Institute) at the University of Limerick who are interested in using our technology in the field of software understanding and problem resolution. This presentation led to further discussions and we are now involved with a Ph.D. student based at LERO who will work on using Galaxy in his work on software comprehension.

    Since 2000  till 2005 I performed as the Architect of IBM world-wide LanguageWare group, I continue my affiliation with this group as LanguageWare Chief Scientist

  • Presentation at the Irish Digital Libraries Summit (Digital Libraries at the eve of the Next Generation Internet - IrishDLSummit), this was an all Ireland event, open to both academics and industry, on how to bring semantic web methods and technologies into Digital Libraries.
